[Loud as it is, it's barely more intelligible than a gurgle. Actually, gurgling is about all he's going to be able to manage for a minute or so. Give him time.]

[WHAT. WHAT DID SHE SAY.]

[More than he's currently capable of saying, although with some difficulty he works his way back up to at least an audible splutter.] Wha... I mean, th-that's...!?

I see. Then perhaps I was led to the wrong conclusion.

[And abruptly, there's a loud thump.] Souji.

[...Wait, or maybe Kanji? Who then went into hiding before Yosuke could hunt him down, and that's why he went missing all of a sudden? Nah, couldn't be.]

{Actually, Yosuke, it was Adachi. But she knows how he feels about the man, and so she stays silent.]

I take it the matter has been cleared up, then?

[Huh? That makes it sound like she called him just to - oh god, no. He's got to say something in his defense!]

N-No, wait! Please, wait! It's an honest - like, it's true that I said it, but it wasn't - umm, 'cause, you know, I thought...!

[Actually, she was trying to ask you out, you clod. Cue Maribelle's tone growing quite cool.]

And what, then, did you mean?

Um. [She can't see his crestfallen expression, but she can probably picture it.] That I'm sorry...? I-I mean, if you want to date for reals, we... I was gonna, you know ask if...

[After an awkward second, there's a slapping noise almost as loud as the earlier thump.] Argh, I don't know what I'm saying! Just - forget all of that! What did you want it to mean!?

[A few moment,s and the silence gets decidedly frosty. And then....]

I was asking if you would like to continue it, you dolt.

[And if she giggles a little after that, well, she's not going to bring it up.]

[What follows is an awkward silence, and then a muffled "ow" that he doesn't intend to bring up either. He hasn't calmed down in the intervening few seconds, though. If anything, he sounds even more desperate.] Yes!?

[Another giggle, this time more obvious - and happier.]

Very well. I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with this custom. What shall we do next?

Huh? [He just determined that he isn't dreaming, and she never struck him as the kind of girl to mess with somebody for no reason, so... good question. He half expects the sky to fall down any second.] B-But you're the one who asked... Umm, watch a movie sometime? Take a train to - no, hold on, that wouldn't work...

[Now that he thinks about it, that's the wrong way to do it, isn't it? Wait, no, maybe it depends - but either way, he's floundering.]

[He waits for just a second longer than normal before ending the call himself.]
