Hey. We're off. I'll make sure both me and Kanji come back alive.

I didn't ask, but I couldn't find you...do you mind keeping my garden and the cats safe while I'm gone?

Come back a-... [There are probably more ominous calls to wake up to, but Yosuke can't think of any first thing in the morning, and it shows.] Whoa, hey, hold up! What's going on? Off where?

Surt's Kingdom. Military's been called to go there. [And mandatory for the strike team.]

I left you a message yesterday night about it. I wondered why you hadn't answered back...

[windbreak]

Oh, l-last night... [It's impressive how suddenly his whole demeanour can snap from borderline outrage to practically cowering.] Sorry, partner. Something came up, so I must've missed it.

No it's not invading...it's a scouting mission. We should be back after a few days, but the kingdom is made of lava...[But let's change the subject because he can tell something is wrong with Yosuke.]

W-Well... [Didn't even miss a beat. So much for that.] Uh, if I had to describe it, it'd be... something maaaaybe along the lines of kinda, y'know - getting taken in for breaking curfew.

[The look on his face says please, please leave it there.]

Anyways, forget that! Even if it's not an invasion, won't they think it looks like one? You sure you're gonna be okay?

[And NICE TRY. He's not easily swayed by those puppy-dog pleading eyes.]

Was it on purpose or by accident? [Cause honestly with Yosuke, by sheer bad luck is part of the potential reasons.]

[He recoils, the back of his head missing the cell wall by a somewhat unkempt hair.] Dude, of course it wasn't on purpose! What do you take me for? [...Although he's pretty quick to move on for fear of Souji answering that question.] I just ran into a guy, we lost track of the time, and...

[Good thing he did too, as the video showcase all of Souji's eyebrow slowly moving upwards. Yes, what did he take you for?]

[Like the mature, certainly-not-going-to-pitch-the-cat-out-of-a-first-floor-window young man Souji no doubt knows him to be, Yosuke pouts.] Hey, I check them! I was just - distracted!

[But his expression quickly returns to normal, and he leans forward.] In all seriousness, though... You remember what I said, right? [He says far more things than are good for him on a regular basis, but in this case it's about not doing anything dumb.]

[And like a mature,...mature person, Souji laughs.] I suppose that's one way to say it.

[But that quickly melts away when they become serious again, and he rubs a hand on his chin.]

You said a lot of things... [From the tone of his voice, he isn't being insulting.] You'll have to specify which one, partner.

["All of them", part of him wants to say - but that would take too long, he can't give Souji a punch in the shoulder through the video feed, and in any case he'd melt into a puddle of self-consciousness before he got halfway through. That's not how guys do things. Instead, he simply shakes his head.] Just be careful.

[Because if Souji isn't, all bets are off. He can trust in that much.]
