[He'd called himself Hanamura, but the name Yosuke had been first on the feed, and there was the whole honorific thing - she's just going with "hey."

And she's wearing a pair of glasses nearly identical to the ones she had back home. Looks like the experiment worked.]

Oh, hey! You found some after all! So did it work out in the end?

It was your friend, Kanji. I got some help from my new boss, too, so I've got enough contacts for awhile - I just thought, with supplies being iffy, these were still a good idea.

They're perfect, though! Thanks for letting me know about all this.

Ha, c'mon, I didn't do anything... [And yet he looks flattered anyway.] That means he didn't scare you off, right? Told ya he was a good kid. [- says Yosuke, who is somewhat shorter, noticeably squeakier, and built like a twig.] They look great on you!

No, not at all. He just looks like he's in a punk band or something, really cool. [She's got a bit of a thing about boys in bands.

The compliment makes her blush, since her glasses were always something to be taken off the moment she was supposed to be presentable.] Thanks. As long as they work, right? I've mostly worn my contacts since I got into roller derby, for probably obvious reasons, but these'll be a good backup around here.

Yeah, and glasses are cool too! You'd be surprised what they can survive.

The mental image of Kanji in a band, though... [This grin is pretty close to being just a smirk.] Well, what would you say if I told you he was onstage with an idol before?

[Her brow furrows at the word "Idol." Her only context for it in those terms is:]

Like from the show? Do you have that in Japan, too?

[Yep. American Idol.]

[He blinks, slightly confused by her evident slight confusion.] "The" show? I guess she was in a few... [...Oh, duh, hold on. Now that he thinks about it, he vaguely recalls running into this before.] Idol as in popular singer, you know?

Oh! We just call them - well, all famous people - "celebrities." Like we'll say someone is our idol, but not like that.

[Back to the point.]

How'd he manage that?

Hey, even legit celebrities gotta go to school somewhere. [He beams again.] Truth is, she's another friend of ours... Oh, Kanji and I, we're both from the same small town, so we knew each other before [he waves an arm around at the rest of the park behind him] any of this. But yeah, she did this unofficial gig once. I can play guitar, a little, but half of us never even touched an instrument before... It was memorable, let's say.

But if you think he looks much like he belongs in a real band... I dunno, are you big into music, Bliss-san?

Whoa. [Yes, he has fluked into impressing her. Whether pop singers are what she's into or not (decidedly not), knowing a celebrity and performing with them is...] That's so awesome. I thought the teenage ones just had tutors to finish their schooling once they were famous - actually having someone famous at your school must've been crazy.

[She can't quite picture the gig, but it's obvious she's trying, because she eventually just ends up giggling a bit helplessly.]

Good thing they had you to lead them then, a little. [Yeah, she's definitely teasing.] I'm totally into music. I love everything from - punk, to indie rock, to - 80s Christian metal. And I'm serious about that last one, if you ever see a CD by band called Stryper, don't pass it up.

Huh, really? Must take all kinds. [But that's largely retaliation for the jab at his awesome (not awesome) guitar skills, and Yosuke doesn't sound sceptical - if anything, he's impressed.] Gotta remember that one. Though I dunno about the chances of them showing up here...

[He shrugs cheerfully.] Anyway, I guess you're like me! I'll listen to pretty much anything, too. You ever go to - oh, but you said you live out in the sticks or something as well, right?

I don't know how you can doubt anything here after awhile. Stryper's downright tame compared to some of the stories I've heard so far. But - maybe you're right, maybe they're actually too normal to be in Asgard.

[She's having fun, she has to admit it. While all the discovery is amazing, just having a normal conversation with a normal kid like her is a huge relief.]

Bodeen's town motto is actually "out in the sticks," yeah. But I'm close to Austin, and it's a pretty big city, so try me.

Nah, I was just curious! How many real shows do you get to go to out there? That's one thing you end up missing from the city. Like, on a good day, you could just walk around, you'd trip over something. But somewhere like Inaba, the whole region's pretty much a dead spot.

And it seems like the only kind of show you get around here is the literally on fire kind. [His smile here is a bit lopsided.] Actually, it gets me wondering what talents people are hiding here 'cause they don't involve flinging hammers through walls or whatever... Then again, it's not like everyone has to have one.

Not many. [She frowns at that.] I'd hear about them all the time, but Pash - my best friend - just got her license last year, so we haven't been sneaking into Austin for that long. I'll probably go to more now that I'm... [Just enough of a pause to notice.] ... hanging out with Oliver, since he's in a band.

Huh. [Her expressions shifts to something more thoughtful at that.] If there's time for weddings, you'd think there'd be time for concerts. Nothing like that happens at all?

[Significant pause hanging out, huh? That's far too subtle a hint for Yosuke to pay attention to.]

Mm, that or I just don't know anyone who's heard about it. The closest thing I can think of, uh - well, a few months back when Kanji and I woke up here, there was this festival kind of thing going on in town? I remember a few people playing CDs and stuff, at least. Performing, not so much. And then there's the karaoke room at our place, but that's not the same either. It's too bad, huh? It'd be something else to take everyone's minds off things getting rough.

[He rubs at his neck for a moment - and then, pretty suddenly, something lights up in his face.] Hey, maybe - [But he quickly settles down.] Oh, but I guess it'd be harder to convince people if we can't just point at Rise. Hmm... still, there's gotta be somebody we could rope in who'd go along with it...

[Yes, "we".]

Whoa, wait, I'm a concert promoter now? [She's grinning, not against the idea, but boy, that escalated quickly.] Not even, a talent scout. I'm not qualified for either of those positions!

[Her surprise melts into something more wistful.] It would be fun, though. Worth suggesting, since we can all talk to one another so easily here. Is there anywhere around here that'd be good for a concert? Or even just a talent show, if that's not too elementary school?

[She didn't miss that mention of karaoke, either.] Your place? Do you have a house with friends here, too?

Ha, that'd be the day. It's better than that! Didn't I mention it before? We got ourselves a whole store, man! ...Well, since the other day, more like a bunch of space plus the stuff that got trashed. But I know that side of the building didn't get the worst of it. [Because he checked. Priorities!] My partner owns the place, Kanji tends to sell the stuff he makes when he's not busy elsewhere... You should drop by sometime!

[That last part rolls off his tongue almost like it was reflexive.]

As a venue, it'd be on the small side... But a venue isn't the biggest problem, right? Like, if there's nowhere else, we could probably bug a few people like Kanji into making a temporary stage here in the park, or whatever. It's about finding enough people to go up on it! Nothing formal or anything, just - finding them.

[He tilts his head.] Eh, I don't know. I guess we've got other stuff to focus on. Maybe I oughta think about it some more.

[She's just becoming more and more impressed.]

You guys own your own business? That's awesome! I definitely wanna see it - shit, if you had electronics there, did they get wiped out too? That'll get expensive to replace.

[She shakes her head at his reluctance.] I say the worse things are, the more people need distraction. I mean, get the city rebuilt and everything, but if it'll hold together long enough for a concert then people will probably appreciate it.

Hey, I didn't say stop thinking! [But he does look considerably more confident after hearing her say it. Well and truly sidetracked, even.] Gotta make sure the timing is right, yeah?
