Hey, this is Yosuke. [He doesn't sound too much like he's gritting his teeth - just don't ask how many tries this recording took.] I'm probably in the middle of something right now, so if you want to leave a message, I'll get back to you. Alright, later.
[Beep!]

and slowly, from behind the desk, Ryoji rises up with a bwoooooooong
Heheh... Yeah, I'm all right. I just... need a second. Sorry, I meant to take it a little slower, but...
[Perfectly innocent conversation all round. At this point, though, he does look up, and notices that said conversation is not so subtly edging aside to flatten itself against the wall.]
Hey, what's with...!? [Even as he starts to say it, he catches on.] Dude, come on! I said that was an accident! [Sheesh, Souji, no pressure.
Oh well. Still smarting, he steps closer to the boarded-up window, flashlight out, and concentrates on another nail on the same side. This time, there's another squeak, but no subsequent ping or clatter. He reaches down, and it slides out between his fingers with only a little resistance.]
See, if we stick to loosening all of 'em, they won't go flying everywhere... And it shouldn't be too hard to pull them the rest of the way. Hold on, I'll do a couple more -
[In fact, he gets through more than a couple - in a few minutes, having picked up a small handful of nails and rust in the process, he's managed to liberate most of the side of the panel.
Naturally, this leaves the corner free to peel away from the window and lightly smack him in the face. He backs off a step, spluttering sawdust.]

So he'll just be on the side, grinning while giving him a thumbs up when he explains what he's doing (not that Yosuke can see much of that). Encouraging him!]
Got it.
[While still not moving and standing there silently as he hears the nails giving away from the cranking and groaning wood, one by one. The way the room is echoing tells Souji there's definitely a high ceiling that they can't see right now. He'd move his flashlight to look, but for now he'll keep it in Yosuke's direction, lending him what little resources he can.
When the wood becomes loose and lightly hits his partner in the face, Souji finally steps up. Danger zone or not, he's halfway there, and Souji can see the light seeping from little crack the twisted wood is giving them, making the dust dance in the air. He puts one hand on his friend's shoulder, before grabbing the plank both hands.]
I'll hold it down while you pull out the other side.
[At least it won't smack you twice. Probably.]

[He sets his handful of nails down on the desk and gets to work on the rest of the panel, starting to take two or three of them at a time, although whether he's gradually getting to grips with the finer level of control or just bored of standing around in a dilapidated old work room is anyone's guess. A few of the nails miss his hand as they drop out and plink to the floor, scattering around their feet.
But finally, he yanks the last nail out from the corner of the panel with a flourish.] Ha ha, look at that - huh?
[Possibly a bit too much of a flourish, given how much of the panel's weight had been hanging on it at that point. The board slips a few inches down the wall, the narrow glow of the streetlamps outside widening into a harsh beam across the concrete floor.
Then Souji's little vine from a minute ago surrenders as well, and the whole wooden board plummets towards their toes.
(Sure, there's a saying about things not striking the same place twice, but since Yosuke is weak to lightning...)]

Still holding part of the cracked board with his hands, he watches in slow motion as the rest of it slips down from the wall, bumping before landing squarely on top of their shoes. He's certain if he had been watching it from an outsider's point-of-view it would be hilarious. However that's not his case.
His eyes grow and he bites his lip from screaming out a profanity, something he quickly learned to keep down with his mother (there was a reason why Dojima was scared of her). That was incredibly painful. How heavy had that thing been? Like a robot, he tosses the remaining piece of wood in his hands on the side, and then just stands there, looking down. The pain continues at each pump of his heartbeat.]
...ow.
[The perfect poker face, betraying the intense pain he's currently feeling in his feet right now. Note to self: buy metal steel toe caps as soon as possible.]

- and then, a confused moment later, opening one eye. Wait, what? He heard it touch down, he knows it landed on Souji, he thinks he can feel its weight...
Experimentally, he wiggles his toes, and finds them all in working order. Then he moves his foot back, and the rest of the board slides off the very tip of his shoe, thunking onto the concrete floor heavily enough to make the desk behind them shudder.
He looks at it blankly. Holy shit. This never happens.
...Oh, right. Souji.]
Dude! [At a loss for anything else to do, he moves to grab his partner by the arm.] Oh man, Souji, I'm so sorry! Are you hurt!? Seriously, we better come back later...
